Movie Review: The Kings Speech

Since July, I've been a advocate for Inception, saying it deserves every award that the Academy can give it, most notably Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio. Well, before seeing this, I heard everyone saying how this was the big contender for Best Actor/Picture etc. I though "bollocks" to that, Inception is still the best, nothing can top it and nothing comes close(due to a car accident, I never got a chance to see The Social Network). My mind was made up, despite how much I wanted to see this, and all the praise that the movie had received.
Well, since seeing it, though I still prefer Inception, if this film won, I would be more then pleased with that. The acting in this film really is as good as everyone says. The way Colin Firth can pull off the stutter, the mannerism, the pain and the power that came with playing King George VI is just, for lack of a better word, infuckingcridible. The humor is for older people, but now I've come to that age that I can finally get this subtle humour. Helena Bonham Carter, who has never pleased me with her acting(the best being in Sweeney Todd) is solid, reviving my faith in her as an actress and not just as Tim Burtons wife. Likewise, while I've never been a fan of Mr. Firths acting, not simply because I don't like him, I've just never really been exposed to it. Maybe now, I'll finally get around to watching all those movies that he's in....ah, who am I kidding, even though with all that time on my hands, I know deep down I won't. Overall, this is a great film, which feels longer then it really is, but let me say you won't regret it, You have my word.
Rating: 5/5
